A Quick Guide to Motor Sports

Since the invention of cars humans have found ways of racing them. Initially on conducted on straight tracks, the need to reach great speeds whilst challenging the quality of a vehicle, and the ability of its driver forced the evolution of the sport. There is nothing quite so thrilling as the sound of engines revving on the tarmac and that green flash that signals acceleration and the screech of tyres as they tear around the track. If you’ve recently discovered the thrill of watching motor sport it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the sheer amount of events on offer. With the racing season taking place mist of the year, one cannot physically dedicate their entire existence to catching every event possible. To make life easier we’ve drawn up a list of the various motorsports on offer and their excitement level on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 represents a snooze fest, and something you might experience if you were to watch your grandmother drive while 10 is a mind-blowing speed experience that leaves you stunned.

Indycar

The Race

Indycar boasts that they are Americas premier open wheel racing championship. Utilising a variety of track types, from awkward angled circuits to smooth circles. During the history the Indycar the most exciting events have always been the street races. There are few things in life more exciting than watching a quiet city street being brought to life by the sound of engines and the brutal 300km/h speed of an Indycar.
Excitement Level 5-8
This really depends on where the race is being run. If an Indycar race takes place on an urban track it can be truly electrifying. If on the other hand, a more traditional circular track is utilised, you may find yourself falling asleep.

V8 Supercars

The Race

V8 supercars offer a thrilling, high-octane racing experience that offers an exciting viewing experience. While largely based in Australia, the popularity of the V8 Supercar challenge has led to as much as 6 offshore events annually. The racetracks vary from exhibition street races to the marquee race of the series the Bathurst 1000. V8s represent the pinnacle of Australian motor sport and are a truly terrific experience.
Excitement Level 8
The best event on the V8 circuit is what earns this sport a high rating. The Bathurst 1000 is a gripping thrill ride that sees various teams compete for the coveted title of king of the mountain. V8s are a source of national pride for Australians and offer a truly unique taste of motorsport.

Nascar

The Race

Nascar is America’s most popular racing sport. Nascar is a multi billion-dollar company with a huge fan base worldwide. Taking place on a circular track, drivers race laps for dominance, and the event is known for its horrifying crashes as much as its races.
Excitement Level 3
It’s not that Nascar is a bad sport, but watching cars race around in circles isn’t particularly exciting. While the crashes are insane and guaranteed to thrill, they represent a darker side of motorsport that shouldn’t be celebrated.

Formula 1

The Race

Formula 1 claims the top spot in the world of motorsport. Attracting a worldwide viewership and boasting celebrity drivers, the sport is lucrative and exciting. With cars racing on street and custom-built tracks at speeds up to 320 km/h, Formula 1 offers all the excitement one can handle.
Excitement Level 9
Until we strap jet engines safely to vehicles and send the hurtling around a track Formula 1 will dominate the racing scene. With gripping races and charismatic drivers, Formula 1 offers a level of excitement that is hard to beat.

There truly is nothing more exciting than motorsport. Racetracks and cars vary but the purity of the race and the harnessing of speed remains at the essence is the sport. Whatever you decide to watch the rewards are great and are sure to keep your attention fixed on the track.
